Finishing

Driveways:

Trim edges of the lane after spreading is complete by raking edges inward in order to provide a definite straight edge. Pack your Shingle Chip driveway with a heavy smooth drum steel packer (minimum 5,000lb range)

Livestock Area:

Pack Shingle Chips with tractor wheels upon completion of spreading. Livestock will pack material over time and water will drain through the Shingle Chips quickly and easily.

Application

Driveways:

Spread Shingle Chips with a manure spreader, running tractor engine at slightly more than idle. With tractor in low gear, keep moving while spreading, applying a thin layer with each pass. Continue until you have approximately a five inch base of loose shingle chips. Have someone follow the spreader with a fork, shaking and leveling out any lumps or high spots. This should be done during each spreader load.

Livestock Area:

Place shingle chips 10-12" thick over solid clay or hard top soil. Spread Chips with a manure spreader.

Preparation

Driveways:

Fill all pot holes and level any ridges in centre or on sides of driveway with gravel from existing lane.
